Our Silver Needle raw (sheng) pu-erh tea cake is made from high-quality sun-dried Yunnan large-leaf tea leaves, carefully selected and compressed without artificial fermentation. The name "Silver Needle" or "Silver Tips" (银豪, yín háo) refers to the prominent, silvery-white buds that are a hallmark of this tea's quality and appearance.
-
Appearance: The tea cake is well-pressed and visually striking. It features robust, tightly-bound tea leaves that are generously covered with fine, silvery-white tips (hao). The overall appearance is typically a fresh, dark green to brownish-green.
-
Aroma: The dry leaves have a fresh, clean, and slightly sweet fragrance. When brewed, the tea unfolds a complex aroma. You can expect notes of fresh floral scents (like orchid), sweet fruit (such as honey or citrus zest), and crisp, vegetal tones reminiscent of spring hay.
-
Flavor & Mouthfeel: As a raw pu-erh, this tea offers a vibrant, lively cup. The liquor is typically a clear, bright golden yellow. Its flavor profile is known for a pleasant and refreshing character, which can include a slight, fleeting bitterness that quickly transforms into a profound and long-lasting sweetness. This is followed by a strong, cooling sensation and a soothing feeling in the throat (often called "hou yun"). The mouthfeel is often described as smooth with a pleasant, stimulating astringency that adds structure to the tea.
🫖 Brewing Guide
To best appreciate the delicate and complex nature of this raw pu-erh, we recommend using pure or filtered water. The tea is highly durable and can be steeped many times, with each infusion revealing a new layer of flavor.
Gong Fu Style (Recommended for Best Experience)
-
Tea Ratio: 6–8 grams of tea per 100 ml of water.
-
Water Temperature: 95°C–100°C (slightly off-boiling water is ideal for raw pu-erh to avoid scorching the delicate leaves).
-
Rinse: Perform a quick flash rinse to "wake up" the tea leaves and wash away any dust from the compression process. Discard this rinse water.
-
Steeping Time: Start with a very quick 5-10 second infusion. For each subsequent steep, gradually increase the steeping time by 5–10 seconds.
-
Servings: This tea is exceptionally durable and can easily yield 8–15 infusions.
Western Style
-
Tea Ratio: 4–5 grams per 300 ml of water.
-
Water Temperature: 95°C–100°C.
-
Steeping Time: 3–5 minutes.
-
Servings: Can be re-steeped 2–3 times, adding 30 seconds to each subsequent steep.
🏺 Storage & Aging
One of the greatest pleasures of a quality raw pu-erh is witnessing its transformation over time. Proper storage allows it to age gracefully, developing a deeper, smoother, and more complex character.
