Dragon Well (Long Jing) Green Tea – The Emperor of Chinese Green Teas
Product Overview
Hailing from the misty hills surrounding Hangzhou's West Lake in Zhejiang Province, China, Dragon Well (Long Jing) is the country's most celebrated green tea. With a history spanning over a thousand years, this legendary tea was once a favorite of Chinese emperors and a tribute tea for the royal court.Today, it remains the gold standard for premium green teas, treasured for its elegant flavor and beautiful craftsmanship.
Tea Characteristics
-
Appearance: The leaves are uniquely flat and smooth, resembling orchid petals or small spearheads, with a pale jade-green color. This signature shape is achieved by expertly pan-firing the leaves in large woks shortly after the spring harvest.
-
Aroma: Dragon Well presents a delicate, inviting fragrance. You will discover a beautiful balance of fresh, vegetal notes and a distinctive, toasty sweetness, often described as having the aroma of roasted chestnuts and sweet peas.
-
Flavor: The liquor is a clear, pale golden-green with a smooth, mellow, and subtly sweet taste. It has a lingering, refreshing finish with a clean, orchid-like freshness, and is known for being remarkably free of bitterness. The prized tea tips are rich in amino acids, contributing to its savory and soothing character-.
Brewing Guide
To unlock the full potential of this fine tea, we recommend the following method:
-
Water Temperature: Heat fresh, pure water to 75-85°C (167-185°F). Do not use boiling water, as this will scald the delicate leaves and create bitterness-.
-
Tea Leaves: Use about 3-5 grams (approximately 1-2 teaspoons) of tea leaves per cup (225ml)-.
-
Vessel: A transparent glass cup or a porcelain gaiwan is ideal to appreciate the tea's color and watch the leaves unfurl-.
-
Method:
-
Rinse the cup with hot water to warm it.
-
Place the tea leaves into the cup and add a small amount of hot water, swirling gently to wet the leaves and release their fragrance-.
-
Fill the cup about 80% full with hot water. Let it steep for 1-3 minutes-.
-
The leaves can be infused multiple times. For subsequent steepings, gradually increase the steeping time to enjoy the evolving flavors-.
-
Storage Instructions
Green tea is sensitive to light, heat, air, and moisture. To preserve its freshness and delicate flavor, please follow these storage guidelines:
-
Airtight: Always keep the tea in a sealed, airtight container (such as a tin or foil pouch) to prevent oxidation.
-
Cool & Dark: Store the container in a cool, dark, and dry place, away from direct sunlight and strong odors-.
-
Refrigeration: For optimal, long-term storage, we recommend refrigeration at 0-5°C (32-41°F). This will significantly slow the aging process-.Be sure the container is completely sealed to prevent the tea from absorbing any odors from the refrigerator-2. Avoid long-term freezing
