Our Yi Wu ripe Pu-erh tea cake is crafted from high-quality sun-dried Yunnan large-leaf tea leaves, processed using the traditional wet-piling (wo dui) fermentation technique.
-
Appearance: The cake is round and full, with plump, robust tea leaves visibly adorned with golden tips (hao).
-
Aroma: It presents a rich, aged fragrance with a distinctive honeyed sweetness (often referred to as "mi yun" or honey charm). You may also notice layers of stewed red fruit, sweet mushroom broth, and subtle woody or cocoa notes.
-
Flavor & Mouthfeel: Yi Wu is renowned for its signature "fragrant, soft, sweet, and smooth" profile. The liquor is thick, creamy, and mellow with a remarkable clarity. It delivers a pronounced, natural sweetness that coats the mouth, followed by a long-lasting, lingering sweet aftertaste (hui gan) and a soothing throat feel (hou yun). Unlike some heavier ripes, it is full-bodied but never feels muddy or heavy.
🫖 Brewing Guide
To unlock the full potential of this tea, we recommend using pure or filtered water.
Gong Fu Style (Recommended for Best Experience)
-
Tea Ratio: 6–7 grams of tea per 100 ml of water.
-
Water Temperature: 100°C (boiling water is essential for ripe pu-erh).
-
Rinse: Perform two quick, flash rinses to "wake up" the tea leaves and wash away any residual fermentation character. Discard this rinse water.
-
Steeping Time: Start with a quick 8–10 second infusion, and gradually increase the steeping time by 5–10 seconds for each subsequent brew.
-
Servings: This tea is highly durable and can yield 8–12 infusions while maintaining its character.
Western Style
-
Tea Ratio: 4–5 grams per 300 ml of water.
-
Water Temperature: 100°C.
-
Steeping Time: 3–4 minutes.
-
Servings: Can be re-steeped 2–3 times, adding 30–45 seconds to each subsequent steep.
🏺 Storage & Aging
Proper storage is key to preserving and enhancing the quality of your Yi Wu ripe pu-erh. As a young tea, it will continue to develop a deeper, smoother character with age.
-
Environment: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
-
Humidity & Temperature: Ideal conditions are between 50-65% relative humidity and 70-90°F (21-32°C).
-
Airflow: Keep it in an odor-free environment with minimal airflow. Pu-erh easily absorbs strong smells, so avoid storing it near spices, perfumes, or other strongly scented items.
-
Packaging: Keep the tea cake in its original paper wrapper and store it in a sealed container if possible to protect it from external odors and pests, while still allowing for the minimal air exchange needed for natural aging
